My name is Gary Whatford and I created Wood & Wood

I am a qualified carpenter and joiner with a passion for good quality furniture. Since 1974, I’ve gained a wealth of experience including working on new houses, renovating historic buildings
and employing 40+ carpenters.

In the 1990s I was busy renovating an old property for my family. At the time, I could only find one company offering solid wood kitchens – and the lack of competition was reflected in their price!
It was clear I needed to make my own.

Not only did I build my own kitchen for 75% less than the price I’d been quoted, but family and friends enthusiastically recommended me and I began to receive enquiries to make solid wood kitchens like my own. It was an impressive start.

Traditional-Solid-Wood-Kitchens

In 1999, I decided to work with a local manufacturer to produce solid wood kitchens and opened my first kitchen showroom, Woodcrafters, later that year.

After a couple of years and with orders steadily increasing, it was clear I needed to reduce the production lead time. To that end, I redesigned the solid wood cabinet into which the doors are mounted; retaining the framed kitchen door appearance, but reducing the manufacturing time – and costs – by 50%. I registered the unique new design with ACID and production commenced under a new business name – Wood & Wood.

The unique new kitchen design was launched at the 2006 Excel KBB (Kitchens, Bedrooms & Bathrooms) Show in London. The launch was very successful; a large department store ordered a display for their key outlets, while a Japanese contractor, to whom I had previously supplied kitchens, ordered a showroom display.

We have recently added solid wood bathroom and bedroom cabinetry to our product range. Quality remains our primary concern. We take pride in our exceptionally high craftsmanship.

While most of our business is online via designers, architects and builders, we welcome visitors to our increasing network of showrooms. If you would like to discuss any aspect of your kitchen, bathroom or bedroom design or would like a quotation, please contact me by phone or email, or by calling into one of our showrooms.

I look forward to hearing from you.
